             WHAT’S NEW

04/06/12  Guess what?! I have a cover!

I don’t have my official super-duper

high-resolution version yet, but one of

my SuperRomance loop buddies posted

this the other day and let me know I’m

actually on Amazon! (thank you, Marcie!)

So...I think this means that whole author thing might really be happening after all!  :-)  Harlequin’s art department did a stellar job, don’t you think? I love the distance between the two characters—that’s so symbolic. I’ll post the higher-quality version once I get my grubby little paws on it. I’m so excited! That’s my name over there!  :-)

03/12/12  Many, many congratulations to WRW’s 2012 Marlene finalists! And a special trio of hurrahs to WRW’s own finalists: Denny Bryce, Lisa Chaplin, and Kimberly Kincaid. Way to go, ladies!!

I received a happy email last week.  :-)  Superromance Editor Megan Long has asked to see the first three chapters of Joe’s story, the follow-on to The Other Soldier (see hunky picture below). Yay! So I’m madly polishing those pages, and I have a treat waiting for me when I’m done. My brilliant CP Toni Anderson has sent me a rough draft of her latest thriller—I can’t wait to dig in!

02/04/12  Umm...where did January go?? I finished my Golden Heart entries—one was especially entertaining—and have started judging my Series Contemporary entries for Washington Romance Writers’

Marlene contest. I’ve also started working on Joe’s story—Joe is a character from The Other Soldier. Here is how I picture Joe, and his love interest Allison:

As you can guess, it’s not exactly a hardship spending time with my current hero.  :-)

01/07/12  Happy New Year, everyone! I’ve been busy with first revisions, then line edits for The Other Soldier (and, boy, was that an education!), and reading so many fabulous books to review for the Happy Ever After blog, and also waiting to find out which of the three projects I pitched to Megan might actually turn into my second Superromance. The bloodthirsty part of me is kind of hoping she’ll pick the romantic suspense.  :-)

I won’t get to see the cover for The Other Soldier until a few months before the July release, but Megan tells me they’re planning to use the opening scene, where my hero tells my heroine he’s the one who sent the missile that killed her husband. Hmm. This might be the first Superromance cover ever that shows the heroine with her hands around the hero’s throat.  ;-)

Oh! And I received my Novel with Strong Romantic Elements entries to judge for the 2012 Golden Heart. I had to withdraw my own three entries because I sold but I don’t think I have a reason to complain, do you?!  :-)

Thanks for checking in with me! I hope your new year is full of fun, success, and positive challenges!

11/10/11  USA Today’s Happy Ever After blog posted my call story.

Thank you for the support, HEA!  :-)

And since Megan mentioned my title, I think that means it’s official.

“One Soldier Too Many” will be published in July 2012 as “The Other Soldier”.

10/31/11  YAY!! It’s actually the 2nd of November as I’m typing this, and I *still* can’t believe that I *can* type this!  :-)  I sold to Harlequin Superromance! On Halloween I received a voicemail message from Editor Megan Long letting me know that Superromance would like to contract my book, “One Soldier Too Many”, which is the story I’d entered in the Memorial Day Challenge back in June. WOW! They’re planning a July release and already I’ve had the pleasure of doing authorly things like coming up with alternative book titles and filling out the Art Fact Sheet (AFS) that they’ll use to create a book cover. Oh, my goodness, did I just type “author”?!  :-)

If you’d like to check out how this all came about, please visit the Harlequin online party organized by Dee Tenorio. (Thank you, Dee!)  And many thanks to all of my wonderful well-wishers!!

And a great BIG thanks to Victoria Curran, Megan Long, and Wanda Ottewell!  :-)

I’ll let you know when my feet touch the ground again. But it might be a while…

P.S. Also on Monday I received an email from Harlequin Special Edition editor Susan Litman, who let me know I’m a runner-up in the HSE First Chapter Contest! She requested a full of “The Firefighter’s Gift”, which is...so amazing. I’ll have to see what I can do about beefing that up for the Superromance line. Congratulations to the First Chapter winner, Olivia Miles!!
